About Burke

Founded in 1931, Burke is an international leader in custom research and business consulting. We are committed to quality, honesty, and integrity in all endeavors. As one of the founding members of the Council of American Survey Research Organizations (CASRO), Burke demonstrates its commitment to clients and to the public by adhering to a mandatory Code of Standards and Ethics for Survey Research. Burke also monitors the privacy policies of other industry organizations and works to conform to common standards of ethical practice. Burke abides by all relevant legislation (both international and national) relating to data protection and other topics. Burke seeks to avoid any actions that might bring Internet research into disrepute or reduce confidence in its findings. This privacy policy is posted with Burke’s online surveys in a manner that is intended to be easy to find, easy to use, and comprehensible. Burke discloses its identity as the research administrator on all of its online surveys. Direct your questions to the Burke Interactive Help Desk via:

Rights to Anonymity and Confidentiality

Burke works to avoid intruding unnecessarily on the privacy of Internet respondents. Burke will safeguard the anonymity of respondents unless they have given their informed consent to the contrary. Burke will not disclose your set of survey responses to third parties, including its clients, unless you expressly request or permit such disclosure.

To further ensure anonymity regarding employee surveys, Burke immediately severs and destroys all unique identifiers, such as access codes, from your set of responses upon receipt.

Survey Invitations

For targeted research surveys, clients may provide us with lists of people, such as their customers or employees, to invite their survey participation. Burke also sends survey participation invitations to samples of individuals who have expressed a willingness to participate in research panels or receive emails related to topics relevant to the research objectives of a particular project. Burke will use email addresses for no other purpose besides survey research. Burke will not send messages online to respondents who have indicated that they do not wish to receive any such messages relating to a research project or to any follow-up research resulting directly from it. Burke also works to reduce any inconvenience or irritation such email might cause to the recipients by clearly stating its purpose in the subject heading and keeping the total message as brief as possible. Burke also conducts surveys using scientific sampling techniques. Burke, for example, uses its Nth Visitor Methodology to request survey participation of visitors to Web sites of clients. If you are invited to participate in such a research survey, you may be asked for your email address. Burke will allow you to opt out of providing this information. Most often, email information (as well as name, address, and telephone information) is sought so that we can re-contact you for the sake of the further research investigation in which you have indicated an interest. We will not sell, lease or trade your e-mail address for purposes other than for any research in which you agree to participate.

Voluntary Cooperation

Your cooperation is at all times voluntary. When we request your participation, you will have the opportunity to decline or ignore our request. Additionally, at all points throughout the survey process, you may leave our survey site and not return, thus eliminating your data from our reported results of complete interviews. On occasions, to prevent biased responses, the purpose of the research may not be fully disclosed at the beginning of the questionnaire. Burke will not, however, make any deceptive statements that would mislead you about the nature of the research or the uses that will be made of the findings. Statements about the likely length of the interview are based on Burke’s best estimates of the average time it will take respondents to complete surveys.

Use of Cookies

Our site does use cookies for session mechanics only. Cookies are used on our site as a survey restart mechanism, allowing you to return to where you left off should your participation be interrupted for technical or personal reasons. Cookies also allow us to avoid again requesting survey participation from individuals who have previously been invited to provide their opinions in a survey.

Data Security

Burke takes precautions to protect the security of all of its data. All information provided by you is protected against unauthorized access.

Interviewing Children

Burke observes all relevant laws specifically relating to children and young people. Permission of a responsible adult must be obtained before interviewing children aged under 14. Burke avoids asking children aged under 14 questions on topics generally regarded as sensitive whenever possible and, in all cases, handles them with extreme care.
